What does a Plumber do?
The demand for Plumbers is constantly growing, making it a really stable career choice.
As a Plumber, you’ll be installing, repairing and maintaining critical piping and water systems. This can apply to residential, commercial or industrial settings.
Whether you are fixing a leaky pipe or installing a new fixture, there will always be something new and challenging to work on.

What will you learn as an apprentice?
A Plumbing apprenticeship will teach you what is involved in a wide variety of tasks related to assessing and repairing plumbing structures and systems. These could include everything from piping systems and water regulators through to stormwater, drainage and sewerage systems. Working with qualified Plumbers, you will also learn how to
- Earn while you learn and avoid educational debt Not only will you earn a wage during your apprenticeship, but you will also graduate without the debt
- Get advice about financial assistance You may be eligible for financial help, such as access to incentives and interest-free loans to buy work equipment

It generally takes four years to become a qualified Plumber, but since the apprenticeship is based on competency, it can be completed earlier if you have achieved the required skills.

Where can your apprenticeship lead you?
There are many career pathways and options open to you once you complete your apprenticeship.
When undertaking a Plumber apprenticeship you will study a Certificate III in Plumbing over four years.
You might want to gain further qualifications in your chosen field, or even undertake another trade.
Either way, an apprenticeship as a Plumber is your ticket to a bright future.
Career Pathway
During your apprenticeship with 91¹ÙÍøyou will work towards attaining the Certificate III in Plumbing, upon completion of which you will be qualified to work as a Plumber.
There are options to upskill with further study, which will enable you to pursue a variety of more advanced occupations within the trade once you obtain the necessary qualifications for a specific role;
These are some common examples of study pathways beyond your initial apprenticeship, but you are not limited to these options - there are so many possibilities!
*Certificate II refers to a nationally recognised qualification that prepares you for the workplace or academic studies. While it’s not required it may help you to prepare for a Certificate III.
