Our client in Port Macquarie, is seeking a motivated Chef Apprentice to join their vibrant kitchen team. You'll work with experienced chefs, learning food preparation and cooking techniques in a fast-paced, casual dining environment. The client offers a diverse menu featuring flavours from Southeast Asia to smoky American dishes, catering to all diets, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, with a convenient takeout menu.

91¹ÙÍø the role:

This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to develop practical skills and gain hands on experience in.

  • Hands-On Food Preparation: Assist in daily food preparation tasks such as chopping, slicing, and portioning ingredients while learning and applying basic cooking techniques under the guidance of experienced chefs.
  • Kitchen Maintenance and Safety: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, ensuring that all utensils, tools, and equipment are properly washed and stored, while strictly adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Collaboration and Efficiency: Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient service, especially during busy periods, while helping with plating and presentation to meet the restaurant's quality standards.
  • Adaptability and Growth: Show eagerness to learn and adapt to the menu and culinary style and be ready to perform other duties as assigned by senior chefs and management to support kitchen operations.

What we're looking for:

  • Passion and Commitment: A genuine passion for food and a desire to pursue a career in the culinary industry. Previous experience in a hospitality environment, such as a kitchen hand, is advantageous but not essential.
  • Willingness to Learn: Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced kitchen environment, along with a basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Team Player: Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, with basic knife skills or a willingness to learn proper cutting techniques, along with the ability to follow recipes and precise instructions from senior chefs.
  • Adaptability and Stamina: Physical stamina to work long shifts in a hot kitchen environment, flexibility to adapt to changing tasks, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while effectively handling multiple tasks during busy service periods.
